Lightmap caught up with Thule’s resident 3D artist, Norbert Nagel, who witnessed the benefits of our software firsthand at the Total Chaos event in Bulgaria earlier on this year and recommended Thule add our software to their 3D pipeline.
After attending a talk on HDR Light Studio at Total Chaos 2018 in Sofia, Bulgaria, Norbert headed back to Sweden impressed and inquisitive to how our innovative lighting software could help Thule’s aim of promoting and simplifying the task of assembling their outdoor products.

Lightmap caught up with Declan McGurry, a 3D artist at Schawk in London, to learn about his journey as an artist, the evolution of 3D and the impossibility of working without HDR Light Studio.

Lightmap recently visited the Wonder Vision studios in Henley-on-Thames to interview co-founders, Joe Thomas and James Elderton about the companies university origins, their passion for detail, and how HDR Light Studio has made their lighting workflow more efficient.
After spending a short afternoon with Joe and James of Wonder Vision, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of admiration for their artistic passion and innate sense of confidence – it wasn’t a case of ‘if’ they were to be successful all those years ago, but when.
Joe and James met as fresh-faced students studying Product Design at Loughborough University; both ambitious to do more than graduate and work at an agency creating someone else’s vision – they wanted to create their own. Whilst on placement during their third year, Joe and James envisioned a plan to launch their own CGI production studio offering high-end photoreal services. Their ambitious seeds were officially sown in 2010 and Wonder Vision was born. Continue reading →
My latestproject here at Lightmap involved learning how to create realistic knitted material in order to develop a teddy bear. Developing hair on a model is a technique I most recently learnt when working on my Christmas Project, however, the challenge of this particular project involved learning how to create a realistic wool that would wrap-around my model correctly.
