My project at Lightmap this month was to create dirt and dust materials to be applied to a variety of wooden, metal and painted objects. The development of materials is a very challenging subject and by carrying out this project I was able to enhance my material skills further in order to produce the most realistic renders.

Sophie’s Progress – A Christmas Project

Sophies Progress

After joining Lightmap in late 2017, I was set the challenge of creating a Christmas themed image to be included in the companies Christmas email, which required using software and techniques I was relatively unfamiliar with. I found this project to be very challenging, and I have to admit, it didn’t go exactly to plan. By sharing my progress with you, I hope I can highlight all the challenges I faced, and the solutions I learn along the way to improve my skills as a 3D artist.

MODO 11 Compatible

MODO 11 Support

Lightmap announces the immediate availability of the HDR Light Studio Connection for MODO 11. Compatible with MODO, Octane and V-Ray renderers.

Please Note: LightPaint in the MODO viewport in MODO version 11.1 does not work.
We are working with Foundry to find a fix for this issue. LightPaint works fine in MODO 11.0 viewport.

Area Lights added to MODO Connection

MODO Area LightsFriday 1st July 2016 – Today, Lightmap announces the immediate availability of HDR Light Studio version 5.3.4. This new release adds ‘Area Lights’ to the MODO plug-in Connection, allowing users to interactively create and control both a HDRI Map and set of Area Lights with the same ‘artist friendly’ ease of use. The Area Light feature is compatible with: MODO Renderer, Octane and V-Ray. This update also adds compatibility with MODO version 10. Continue reading

Lightmap Labs: Octane for Nuke / Frame Buffer

We have been doing some R&D recently with Octane for Nuke plug-in developer. This has led to a really cool new feature we are exploring – a Frame Buffer in the HDR Light Studio interface. This is not available in our release software yet and is something we are still developing and evaluating.
