We got in contact with Brendan to chat about his huge new project ‘The Complete Bike Owner’s Manual’ – where he created over 600 illustrations using 3ds Max, V-Ray and HDR Light Studio. We also cover his use of Modo as his favourite modelling tool and using Quixel and Substance for texturing. Plus there is a bonus section where we move onto the business side of being a 3D artist, where Brendan shares a wealth of his own experiences when thinking about how to charge for your work.

Welcome to the first episode of 3D TALK – where I talk to 3D artists and learn about their journey into 3D, the tools they use and anything else interesting that crops up.
I had a really enjoyable conversation with Polish 3D artist Wojciech Portnicki. We chatted about his path into 3D, his use of MODO with Octane Render working for Harman in China, and much more. The sound quality is poor, as it was recorded over skype, but stick with it, he has a great story. Not many 3D artists start out as librarians.
Sonoco-Trident is the world’s fastest growing and most innovative digital brand management business. They have been using HDR Light Studio for 2 years now.
Let’s see what Sonoco-Trident 3D artists have to say about HDR Light Studio software.
The software allows us to very quickly create very realistic lighting set ups for our CGI scenes. It has completely changed how we build our scenes and allowed us to massively improve the quality of renders we produce.
HDR Light Studio is very easy to use, and gives us full control of specific highlights and shadows with its full spectrum of controls, presets and settings.
The software is perfect for creating studio style product shots, which is the bulk of what we do at Trident. It has everything you need to recreate a virtual photography studio on your desktop. Having the ability to ‘drag and drop’ a highlight means you can focus on creativity rather than technical limitations. Prefect for people who aren’t very technical, like me!
At Lightmap, we enjoy doing customer surveys to understand what you love about HDR Light Studio and what you want us to improve. We are grateful to our customers who took time to complete the survey and share some amazing insights. It will definitely help us shape the software in future.
Through the survey, we found that 98% of customers would recommend HDR Light Studio to a friend or colleague. This is a big achievement for us! Thank you for loving and lighting with us.
Kaoru Toyoguchi is a Designer at the JVCKENWOOD Design Corporation in Japan, where he produces beautiful still images and animated visualizations of their products for packaging, catalogues and online. We caught up with Kaoru, who uses HDR Light Studio on 100% of his images, to understand why.
