Jeff Patton NVIDIA feature

There’s a nice feature on Jeff Patton and his work using 3DS Max with iRay on the NVidia web site. Check it out here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/mercedes-benz.html

It does however fail to mention that Jeff has been a long time user of HDR Light Studio in his work, and in fact it’s a key component in achieving his superb results. Nearly all Jeff’s renders now utilize HDR Light Studio – in most cases representing all of the lighting for the scene. Jeff is able to take background photographs and build convincing HDR environments using HDR Light Studio to work on top of existing HDR environments from other locations and craft them using additional lighting and effects – so you’d never guess no HDR was shot on the background location.

The results are great car renders that bring out the best in the vehicle whilst bedding the car into the background. Certainly iRay and HDR Light Studio has proven to be an ideal partnership here.

Enhancing HDRI environments in real-time

Florian Petersen is an expert user of VRED software by PI-VR. In this recent project Florian has skilled fully placed this Mercedes C class car onto a photographic background image with lighting and reflections provided by a HDRI captured at the location. Both backplate and HDRI are provided by courtesy of MAGROUND, a stock photo agency specialised on high-quality urban and landscape photography with matching HDRI-domes. The location was shot by Christof R. Schmidt exclusively for MAGROUND.

But to bring the car to life then extra lighting was required to make the materials come alive and look more dynamic.

HDR Light Studio comes to VRED 5.0

HDR Light Studio - VRED Plugin

We are proud to announce Pi-VR’s VRED 5.0 now supports HDR Light Studio directly via the new VRED Live plug-in, available now from the Lightmap store.

The new Live plug-in contains all the features of HDR Light Studio Pro v2.0 and allows your HDRI lighting designs to evolve in real-time directly in VRED.

Osman Dumbuya, Managing Director, PI-VR GmbH says:
“HDR Light Studio is an outstanding tool that really helps create a great lighting setup in a very short period of time. Using HDR Light Studio in VRED offers a totally new, intuitive and most important fully interactive way of working. Changes in the light setup are being updated in real time whether you are working in OpenGL or Ray-tracing rendering mode. With HDR Light Studio and VRED you have full control of all your light set-ups. All effects created in HDR Light Studio are fully being taken to account in the 3D environment in VRED to create sophisticated lighting shadowing and reflections.”
